FINE FURNITURE GUILD
J. Hugh Ainsworth
My design work tends to be original in concept based on the requisite brief and intended use of the finished item. The designs are usually uncomplicated in order to achieve a timeless quality whilst imparting a sense of familiarity and ease of use. This is in keeping with the Japanese doctrine of Zen, which imparts a sense of tranquility rather than dealing with mind challenging concepts and designs. The method of construction is also closely linked to the design, keeping things simple but robust for longevity and usability. The style of constructing creative furniture is therefore born from my own original concepts but shaped from extensive world wide travels from which I have learnt a great deal.
